News: Scholarship Winners 2025





This year brought an inspiring number of applicants, each with unique accomplishments and goals. After thorough review, our panel selected five deserving students to receive the annual Texas Bay Scholarship. Each recipient will receive $3,000 toward their tuition. 

 

Maria Gomez

A YES Prep Southeast Secondary senior, Maria is a first-generation student headed to Colby College to study economics. She's demonstrated academic excellence through college-level summer courses and has been heavily involved in extracurriculars. A member of the National Honor Society and student council, she also excels in athletics as part of the soccer and cross country teams. A dedicated Girl Scout and artist, she was a state finalist in the Houston Rodeo's VASE competition, reflecting her leadership and creativity. 

 

Valdemar Tamez

A senior at Clear Horizons Early College High School, Valdemar will graduate this May with his high school diploma and an associate degree in business. He plans to attend the University of Houston to pursue a degree in computer science. A well-rounded and driven student, Valdemar is an Eagle Scout and founder of his school's Scout Venture Crew. He's also vice president of the computer science club, a varsity bowler and water polo player, a violinist, and a member of the National Honor Society. Beyond school, he runs his own pressure washing and lawn care business and volunteers through his church youth council and other community efforts. 

 

Aiden Duque

Aiden, a senior at Channelview High School, will attend Texas State University to pursue a degree in psychology. Throughout high school, she has taken a rigorous course load of AP classes and served as class treasurer. Aiden is a member of the National Honor Society, band, and the Criminal Justice Club, where she has been placed in regional and state competitions. Known for her confidence and diligence, she is passionate about giving back to her community and actively volunteers in her free time.

 

Emily Henriquez

A current senior at J. Frank Dobie High School, Emily is headed to Dartmouth College to study biomedical engineering. As a founding board member of her school's College Club and a Big Future Ambassador, Emily is dedicated to helping her peers navigate the college application process. She also serves as the sports director for the school news broadcast and is involved in the National Honor Society and Key Club. Emily is a committed volunteer and award-winning student, earning high praise from her mentors for her leadership, intellect, and drive.

 

Samantha Arana

A North Shore High School senior, Samantha will be attending Texas A&M University to study civil engineering, with plans to join the Corps of Cadets and eventually pursue a master's degree. She is set to graduate with her high school diploma and an associate of science in mathematics from San Jacinto College. Samantha is a member of the National Honor Society, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Jr, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Anchor Club. She's also a dedicated member of the North Shore Scarlet Dance Team. She is known for her strong work ethic and determination.
